  • Lydia Le & Lathan Smalley: Class of 2022 Rogers New Technology High School

    Reflection:

“We are passionate about world issues and activism, and we want to give other students the opportunity to take part in local and global needs.”

    Focus Areas:

Education, Community and World Issues, Leadership

    Plan:

Last year, we co-founded the Activism Club at Rogers New Technology High School as a way for students to not only learn about local, community needs and world issues, but also to be productive in various areas and also to make an impact. The mission of the Activism Club is to be active in our community and to educate ourselves on world issues. Ms. Bazyk, our teacher, encouraged us to take the lead in forming the Activism Club. We started out with our personal interests in environmental issues, and sponsored workshops as well as an environmental themed movie night to raise awareness. Later on, we hosted a watching party for anyone to watch the documentary, “Living Undocumented ”, to raise awareness of immigration issues. After the tornado in October 2019, the Activism Club volunteered to help clean the debris at the Humane Society. Our plan for next year is to give our members leadership opportunities, so that we can expand our services and also make a larger impact. Please follow us on Instagram: @rnths_activism_club
